1. Determine whether the reduction in cycle time that results from a decrease in the chamber volume for a batch PCR chamber results in a net increase in throughput. Is the tradeoff monotonic, or is there a clear optimum chamber size?

2. Assume that a 2°C overshoot in the wall temperature of the batch PCR reactor could be tolerated. Can you develop a feedback system that uses feedback from both the wall temperature and the chamber temperature to improve the response time? (This will require building the SIMULINK model of Fig. 22.16, and modifying it so that the control law involves feedback from both sensors.)
