Determine what the abnormal levels of AFP signal
Abnormal levels of AFP may signal the following:
- Open neural tube Defect (ONTD)
- Down syndrome
- Other chromosoma1 abnormalities
- Defects in the abdominal wall of the foetus
- Twins - more than one foetus is making the protein
- A miscalculated due date, as the levels vary throughout pregnancy.
