A liquid of density ρ flows through a sluice gate as shown. The upstream and downstream flows are uniform and parallel, so that the pressure variations at stations 1 and 2 may be considered hydrostatic.

(a) Determine the velocity at station 2.

(b) Determine the force per unit width, R, necessary to hold the sluice gate in place.
