Assessment
Real-world problems can be very complex to analyse. The first step of the quantitative management methodology requires a clear definition of the scope of the studied problem. Thereafter data has to be collected which is vital to the chosen modelling approach. In this assessment you will be asked to choose a topic from several options, present an interesting problem and discuss the application of the quantitative management methodology. Your research outcomes need to be summarised in a report. As an example, a report on the airport ground staff planning problem is also provided for your reference.
ASSIGNMENT TASKS
- Choose one aspect of the selected topic and present the problem (in your own words).
- Determine the type of data you would need to collect and where this might be found or how it might be collected.
- Examine the literature on how to solve your chosen problem and present a review of the solution approaches. Of the approaches you examine suggest which approach you would use and why.
- Present your work in the form of a report, that is, as if your supervisor had asked you to look into how the current practice could be improved.
- Ensure that all documents and websites used are included in your list of references.
