Determine the maximum theoretical length of follower face


In the displacement diagram of Fig. 3.47, it is desired to achieve the full lift of 1.5 in. of a radial Oat-faced follower by matching the cycloidal curve C-1 with the harmonic curve H-2.

(a) Using the data given in the diagram, determine the angle β1 for the harmonic event so that both velocity and acceleration of the follower will be matched al B where the two events arc joined.

(b) Determine the maximum theoretical length of follower face needed for the two events shown.
