Determine the kinetic energy per unit mass

A site near an ocean is being evaluated for power generation using wind turbine. The site is observed to have steady winds at speed of 20 mile per hour.

(a) Determine the kinetic energy per unit mass (J/kg). For simplicity, consider that the wind turbine can be modeled as a circular pipe ofdiameter D through which the mass flow rate (kg/s) is given by the equation m=p AV . Assume that the specific volume of air is 0.833 m3/kg.

(b) What would be the diameter (m) of the proposed wind turbine if 1155 kg/s of air flows through the turbine?

(c) Calculate the maximum power (kW) that could be developed by the wind turbine if all the kinetic energy could be converted to mechanical work.
