A cannon is mounted on the railway flatcar, the muzzle raised to 30.2° and pointed in the direction of the track. The cannon fire a 0.90 metric-ton projectile at 1.10 km/s.

(i) When the flatcar and cannon altogether encompass a mass of 36.0 metric tons (not comprising the projectile), determine the initial recoil speed of the flatcar?

(ii) In this question, it appears that momentum in the y-direction is not conserved. Describe what happens to it.
