Determine relevance of information
To determine the relevance of information, decide whether a statement provides support for or challenges a conclusion.
Provides support: If what the statement relays is true, would it back the conclusion? If the answer is ¿yes,¿ then the statement provides strong support for a conclusion.
Does not provide support: If what the statement relays contradicts the conclusion or is irrelevant to the conclusion, the statement challenges the conclusion. See the Relevance, Rhetoric, and Keeping a Clear Head section of Chapter 1 for more information about relevance.
