A cutting tool uses a nozzle that generates a high speed jet of liquid water (water temperature: 20 °C). Assume an exit velocity of 500 m/s with a jet diameter of 2 mm, at steady state.

(a) Determine the mass flow rate of liquid water through the nozzle.

(b) Determine the pump power required to generate this water jet from a steady supply of 20 °C liquid water at rest. Assume the specific enthalpy of the water at the inlet of the pump and at the exit of the nozzle to be the same.
