Determine net power output and thermal efficiency

At steady state. A power cycle generates 100 MW of electricity while discharging energy by heat transfer at a rate of 55x107 Btu/hr to cooling water at an average temperature of 70°F. The average temperature of the steam passing through the boiler is 900°F. The plant requires power input of 1500 horsepower to drive pumps and other components.

a) Determine the net power output and the thermal efficiency.

b) For the stated conditions, determine the minimumtheoretical rate at which energy could be discharged to the cooling water, in Btu/hr.

c) Compare the minimum theoretical rate and the actual rate at which energy could be discharged to the cooling water and discuss.
