a closed, fricitionless, piston-cylinder assembly contains 4 lbm of water. beginning with an initial volume 10 ft^3, the water is compressed slowly until the volume has reduced to 10 percent of the initial volume. During the process, heat transfer from the water occurs at such a rate as to keep the temperature constant at 300 F. Determine the magnitude and the direction of the work (ft-lbf) and heat transfer (Btu) for the process.
