Problem:
The hospital medical staff will have a thorough investigation to determine if a physician applicant is qualified and competent to perform all procedures requested of him or her. Once the applicant has completed the hiring application, they will look at educational qualifications, credentials (licensure, training, practice history), references, and background checks to make sure they hire a qualified and competent candidate. When the medical staff has completed this assessment process, it will advise the applicant to the governing board. The governing board has the ultimate decision making responsibility to select which physician applicant to privilege working in the facility and it is ultimately responsible for quality of patient care (Showalter, 2017). Since the lay members of the governing board might lack expertise to judge physician's qualifications, it gives this responsibility to the medical staff to assist in reviewing the applicant. The governing board may or may not approve the medical staff's recommendations. Regular reappointment to the medical staff is important for patient safety because it is a process where reevaluation is done on the practitioner's qualifications and current competency. It gives the public confidence that practitioners are consistently meeting qualifications, credentials, and requirements to maintain standards. Need Assignment Help?
