A rope is wrapped around a capstan to secure a ship. The force on the free end of the rope is 800 lb and on the ship end 20 kips. Determine a) the coefficient of friction between the rope and capstan if the rope makes three full turns and b) the number of tull turns required if the coefficient of friction is 0.3.
