Determination of possible noise and light levels

Case Scenario:

The assignment has to be conducted in group of TWOs . Each may discuss a case study (one only) with different noise and light sources with all classes. E.g. Each group may highlight and discuss any all possible sources (indoor and outdoor activities) for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial activities (diversity is essential to fulfill the requirement of this assignment).

The format of the paper to be submitted should meet the criteria of technical writing e.g. Abstract, background, case description, measurement as technical analysis etc.. (please refer to scroll down for more details in this regard. Throughout your report you may discuss the following:

1. Identification of noise and light sources for the selected case study.

2. Determination of possible noise and light levels. (for noise levels you may go through all what have been discussed through the course material). (for light level you may determine the intensity of light of the selected case study with the proper value of P).

3. Compare your findings against the benchmark (you may use national or international standards). For light pollution you may refer to the standard for the indoor and outdoor activity.

4. Application of noise and light pollution and its control in EIA studies.

5. You may discuss methodologies for pollution control to solve the problem of noise pollution by noise reduction at source and noise reduction at the transmission path by engineered control methodologies (Hint: you may design propose a barrier if required with proper design using the frequencies recorded to reach attenuation to meet the benchmark). Outdoor sound propagation might be considered when required.

6. Propose solution for light pollution control on site if applicable.

The report must be prepared using the given format as:

A) Abstract/Summary: where students expected to brief their case and findings with proper solutions (Max. of 200 words).

B) Introduction: students must present detailed information about the noise and light pollution (max. of 2000 words).

C) Problem statement: where students should present the significant impact of the sources chosen as per your case study (Max. of 200 words).

D) Methodologies: here students must discuss their case study with all sources involved and the points of sampling (Max of 4000 words).

E) Results and Discussion: students must present their findings (calculation, graphs, tables, etc...) and provide argumentation accordingly; students must provide all citations (Max. of 4000 words).

F) Conclusion and recommendations: students must conclude their findings with proper recommendations (Max of 500 words).
