Assignment Task: NDT Tool Box
Your assignment is to design and equip a NDT Equipment Box for onsite investigation of your chosen industry.
The primary objectives of the NDT kit are to inspect the site/plant/machinery/components, collect information, and generate a record of the fitness for service of components/plants.
The NDT Tool Box should be portable enough so that when the need arises the inspector could simply pick up the NDT tool box and take it to location, which may involve air travel.
The NDT Tool Box while fulfilling the objectives above must meet the following constraints
- Size and weight: the equipment container size is restricted to 700 x500x300 in mm and must be able to be carried by a single individual (weight < 25 kg).
- Cost: Maximum budget allocation is OMR 15,000. (It is hoped that your designed NDT tool Box can be duplicated and distributed to other individuals throughout the corporation).
With these constraints, develop a list of the NDT equipment items that you would include in your tool box. For each NDT kit selected provide a rationale: by giving a description of the item, its intended use or uses, and justification of the cost if over OMR 3000, the weight (if over 5 kg), and size (if it occupies more than 20% of the case).
The coursework should be presented as a technical report with appropriate references (including www sites) to materials/source used (approximate word count 1000, 4-5 pages including diagrams/references).
