Assignment - Volunteer Opportunities
Part 1
Research three (3) organizations/non-profits that are currently offering volunteer opportunities. For each organization or opportunity, list the following:
• The organization/company name
• A description of the volunteer opportunity
• Number of hours required per shift/week to participate
• Contact information (phone, email, etc,)
• What skills can you develop or how can this opportunity support your professional development?
Part 2 TED Talks Reflection
Watch one or more of the below TED Talk videos. Write a 200 to 300 word reflection which includes the following:
1. Which TED Talk video did you watch?
2. How is this TED Talk relevant to either your job search or your professional development?
3. How does this expert's insight change the way you are looking at your current situation?
4. If you are currently searching for a co-op/job, how can this help you?
5. How can this information help you in your future co-op/job?
6. Your reflection should also include responses to the specific questions listed below each video.
Part 3
Reflection and Goal Setting
The purpose of this exercise is to reflect on the career development activities you are performing and create an action plan to impro your candidacy for future positions.This can include learning or further developing a skill, expanding your knowledge about a particular industry subject, or gaining other work/volunteer experince to build your resume.
When writing your reflection, address the following:
• What transferable skills, experiences, or other credentials would you like to add or further develop on your current resume?
• What are you currently doing to improve your candidacy for future positions? How can this help you in your career?
• Looking back to the volunteer options you listed, which have you pursued, if any?
• What goal(s) will you set for yourself in the coming week(s)? Please write your goals using the SMART criteria. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
Your reflection should be 100 to 200 words in length to be considered for full credit.
