Problem: The readings covered two (2) groups associated with "work deviance": skateboarders and hackers. For this week's discussion, we're going to assume that skateboarders and hackers are considered socially deviant. However, we're attempting to answer the questions of why and how. First, review the chapter on skateboarders or hackers. Then, explain which classical sociological theory (i.e. differential-association, conflict theory, anomie, or labeling theory) seems to best explain that deviance to the extent it is presented in writings from our text. After addressing the "how," be certain to explain the "why." That is, point to specific references and passages from the chapters by either Lee and Holt or Snyder to support the theoretical frame you believe the researchers utilize in describing the deviance of skateboarders or hackers.
