Problem:
Write a response to my classmate - I explored food insecurity among older adults as a global social work practice issue, focusing on how aging populations face increased risk due to fixed incomes, health limitations, and gaps in social welfare systems. Globally, the population aged 60 and older is expected to double by 2050, intensifying pressure on food systems and aging policies, while in the United States alone, more than 7 million adults aged 60+ experience food insecurity. Advocacy and policy practice in this area include expanding nutrition assistance programs, strengthening aging-focused policies, and ensuring older adults' voices are represented in policy decisions. One key insight I learned this semester is the importance of analyzing not only policy intent but also implementation and funding, as under-resourced programs often fail to meet community needs.
