Describes two federal and state standardized assessments

Problem

It is important for teachers to understand the various types and purposes of district, state, national, and international norm-referenced standardized assessments for middle and secondary education students. Assessment results from these tools are often used to guide student placement and inform instruction.

Create a brochure for families and students that describes two federal and/or state standardized assessments for middle and secondary education students. Include at least one assessment that is required for your state. Examples of such assessments include, but are not limited to the following:

1. State standardized assessment such as AZMerit

2. One of the government-funded common assessment consortia assessments (e.g., Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), The National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC), Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM)

3. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

4. One of the International Study Center's assessments (e.g., TIMSS and PIRLS)

5. The American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

6. An Advanced Placement (AP) Exam

For your chosen assessments, include:

1. A description of this assessment and its purpose.
2. A description of the test accommodations made available by the test publisher for students with disabilities.
3. A description regarding how the results are scored, and how and to whom results are communicated.
4. How teachers might use these results to inform instruction and curriculum planning.
