Describes and analyzes the background for the fomc meeting

Write a short essay in 650 words.

• Describes and analyzes the background for the 9/20-9/21 FOMC meeting, and your prediction for what the FOMC will decide at that meeting

a) Questions #1 and #2 from Web Questions #1 and P. 302-12 in the text. Make sure you know: the regional banks, the Board of Governors, the FOMC.

b) Recent FOMC documents including:

• Yellen's June 21, 2016 Report to Congress (see class lecture 3 slides)

• The national summary of the September 7, 2016 Beige Book (posted on the Fed's website on 9/7/16 at 2 PM)

• The last (July 27, 2016) FOMC statement.

• "Fed Chairwoman Yellen Sees Stronger Case for Interest-Rate Increase,"

• I am dividing the associates into four groups. Each group will focus on the decision made by one of the four District Bank Presidents who will be voting on the FOMC statement.

group 4: Kansas City: President Esther George
Group specific materials to be used in preparing the report

• The September 7, 2016 beige book section for your assigned district bank.

• One newspaper article about the economy within YOUR Federal Reserve District.

• The most recent speech on the economy by YOUR District President.

Topics to be examined in your report

1. Do you believe that the President from your District is more concerned about the FOMC raising the fed funds rate target too quickly or too slowly in 2016?

2. Did the assessment of the economy in the September 7 Beige Book indicate a change from the assessment of the national economy in the FOMC statement on July 27, 2016.

3. Based on YOUR District's Biege Book and your newspaper article, do conditions in your own District reflect the national picture? Are conditions in your particular Federal Reserve District ready for a fed funds rate increase?

4. Did the President from your district dissent from the July 27 statement? Would she/he dissent if the rate is not increased in September? Would he/she dissent if the rate is increased at that time?

5. Finally, do you favor increasing the fed funds target in the September meeting? Would you also favor raising it a second time in 2016 (perhaps in December)?
