Lately there has been a lot of talk about "defunding" the police. The general idea is that law enforcement handles a lot of duties that are not law enforcement-related and they are not the most appropriate ones to handle these duties. By taking away some funding from law enforcement and reallocating it to more appropriate resources, we have the potential to better benefit the community as a whole by better addressing these issues.
After researching the issue, choose one function of law enforcement that you consider a non-law enforcement duty, but which is commonly performed by law enforcement.
Address the following points in your post:
1) What duty did you select and why?
2) Describe why this duty is important to perform (even if not by police).
3) Who should alternatively perform this duty and what challenges might they encounter?
4) Explain how to make the transition from police to the other organization you identified (keep in mind law enforcement might not be able to stop performing the duty until the other organization is fully fulfilling the role).
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
(1) The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
(2) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
(3) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
