Problem: Researchers are planning a new project to investigate the psychological aspects connected with an increased risk of death among the elderly (aged 85 years and older). The researchers will survey 1000 individuals when they are 85 years old, then follow up with them five years later to see who is still alive and who has died. The researchers will address the following research question: Do neuroticism, depression, and loneliness increase the risk of death in the elderly? The following measures will be included in the questionnaire:
- A 10-item measure of neuroticism (continuous variable)
- A 7-item measure of depression (continuous variable)
- A 15-item measure of loneliness (continuous variable)
Criterion variable:
Mortality (Alive or Dead; dichotomous variable)
Identify and describe what statistical analysis should be used to analyse the data collected in this research project concerning the variables above.
