The behaviorist and cognitive theories describe the way learning and thinking are influenced by both the surroundings and the inner process. The evolutionary perspective relates to the sociocultural perspective in that it brings together the biological concept with the social interaction and culture, in that it is both nature and nurture that affect development (Berger, 2021). These views put together give a more holistic and rounded picture of development than a single theory can deliver. In case I were to pick one theory, the one I would like is the cognitive theory since it clearly illustrates how people think, reason, and resolve problems in various stages of life. Cognitive development influences academic performance, decision-making and learning, so it is of particular importance in both educational and professional environments. This knowledge on the development of thinking assists teachers and caregivers in developing the proper instruction and support. Though the cognitive theory is very valuable, the combination of the cognitive theory with the other perspectives gives the most precise view of human development through the lifespan.
