Explain why the two-party system endured throughout American history and why third parties have a hard time getting the attention of the public.
Explain the reasons why you have or why you have not ever voted for an independent or third party candidate. If you have, what were your motivations for doing so? If not, why?
Discuss whether the United States needs a viable third party to compete with the Democrats and the Republicans. Do the two parties do a good job in representing the views and interests of voters, or are other voices needed? Would a viable third party increase voter turnout?
Part 2-
Describe three types of interest groups. Do you appear to have an interest group representing your interests? Explain.
Describe at least two tactics used by interest groups and how these groups are regulated and/or restricted in their activities.
Explain how the U.S. Supreme Court's "Citizen's United" decision affected the ability of interest groups to influence politics. Do you feel interest groups have too much power over American government or not enough? Explain.
