Problem
I. Public agencies and organizations such as government and police depend upon public trust and support to be effective. Police do this through transparency, accountability and by getting involved in the community. (i) Describe a recent example of an incident where police or government have taken actions that have resulted in some people questioning their public trust in them. (ii) Describe any two oversight mechanisms, offices or agencies that help maintain trust and accountability for government in Canada at the federal level. (iii) Describe any two oversight mechanisms, offices or agencies that maintain trust and accountability for police in Canada (you can refer to police at any level)
II. Democracy is all about engaging people in decision making. (i) Describe at least 3 avenues that allow/encourage Canadians to become engaged in decision making and the political process. (ii) Only 61% of Canadians voted in the last federal elections. Discuss why you think this was the case and suggest what can be done to increase voter participation.
