Prison life is not so different than ours except for the confinement issue and some forms of deprivation. Examine this chapter relative to your life on the outside.
1. Describe those aspects of prison life that are examples of prison as a total institution.
2. Explain how the concept of relative deprivation is used as an explanation for prison riots.
Use the Penitentiary of New Mexico Riot as depicted in the Doing Time Video as an example.
3. Identify the "Pains of Imprisonment" that were depicted in the Doing Time Video
4. Compare and contrast Probation and Parole.
