Problem
Conduct an "audit" of one of your social media sites (e.g. Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). If you do not use any social media site, conduct an audit of a family member's or friend's social media website. Do NOT just rely on your memory/impressions--rather, actually open it up, look through it, tally things up if needed, etc.
A. Describe the types of people and accounts you follow (e.g. friends from elementary school and high school, extended family, fitness influencers, country music artists, LARP fangroup, etc.)
B. Reflect on the extent to which the people/accounts you follow are similar to you in terms of social categories (e.g. age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, ability status, religion, nationality, socioeconomic status, political affiliation or ideology, etc.).
C. Does your social media profile confirm or counter the findings about homophily presented in (A) the lecture and (B) Barbero's readings on political polarization? Be specific in your answer: what exactly does it confirm/disconfirm and how?
