Problem:
When Paul, age 34, enters your office, he tells you immediately that he's very concerned about confidentiality and doubts that you, a counselor can be trusted. His wife insisted he sees a counselor, threatening she would leave him if he didn't. Paul dropped out of university because according to him, the professors were conspiring against him; sabotaging his school work so he would fail his courses. Paul tells you that his teachers in high school did the same thing to him and even though he is highly intelligent, that is the reason he only got average grades. He is also very suspicious of his wife and tries to keep tabs on her at all times so she doesn't side with the school officials against him. He reports being very angry over many slights throughout his life, especially about being turned down for a promotion in a job he held 8 years ago. He hasn't worked since then and is convinced his bosses would never promote him due to his political views. Paul is a member of a militia group that supports government conspiracy theories. Paul has no history of psychotic disorders or symptoms. He smokes marijuana and drinks beer throughout the day to "take the edge off". His driver's license was revoked after a DWI charge six months ago. Paul claims he was framed by the police.
