A Review of, The True Believer by Eric Hoffer
Hoffer described several different "actors" who were part of the creation of "mass movements."
In the 4-6 pages allotted:
• Describe the roles played by the various types of people whom Hoffer identifies as: Men of Words, the Fanatics, and the Practical Men of Action. Explain how these people in their roles are interconnected and work with, or influence, each other.
• Using your knowledge of 20th and 21' Century American History, identify a movement whether it be religious, nationalistic, or social that you believe fits Hoffer's model of a modern mass movement. Identify the Men of Words, the Practical Men or Women of Action, and who or
what kind of people make up the followers (fanatics.)
