PART I: FALLACIES OF REASONING

Academic writing requires that we make arguments, reasons for the claims we are making within our paper. Oftentimes we will use reasoning to make our argument stronger by offering a premise and conclusion that are logical. Sometimes our arguments fail and that is when fallacies become part of our argument. This homework will have you identifying fallacies in commercials and explain the type of fallacy being used.

Identify two TV or radio commercials that utilize fallacies of reasoning.

For each commercial, write 275 to 500 words. Include the following:

a. Summarize the commercial. (75-100 words)

b. Identify a fallacy of reasoning used and explain why the commercial meets the definition for this fallacy. (100-200 words)

c. What is your reaction to the commercial and why? (100-200 words)

PART II: MOVIE ANALYSIS

MOVIE TITLE: The Great Debate

Write a 1,250 to 1,500 words analysis of a movie of your choice that the instructor approves.

In order to obtain credit you MUST do the following: thoughtfully apply and develop at least two course concepts per section. DO NOT only summarize the movie. Critically assess the movie in order to provide an intellectual response to each of the questions below.

a. Provide a brief synopsis of the plot and main characters.

b. Describe the role of leadership in the movie. What types of leadership were used? In what ways does leadership help the group achieve their goals?

c. What methods are used to reinforce the group's identity (verbal & nonverbal)? What do the leaders do to reinforce and support the group's decisions?

d. How does the group handle conflict? Are these conflicts constructive or destructive? In what ways?

e. Are there any ‘sidebar' conversations among group members? How do conversations like these help the group achieve their goals? Do these types of conversations negatively or positively affect the group? How so?

f. Does the leader remind the group of the group's purpose/goal? How does this help the group? Why is this important for the group?

Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:

a. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

b. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

c. Also include a reference page. The references and Citations should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
