Discussion Post: Introduction Health Informatics
You have been working with different departments for a few weeks and you know that handling patient information requires an understanding of the technology and how it works-especially when you have to utilize different systems, which is common. Two systems that work together and that you may utilize in health care are the electronic health record (EHR) and computerized provider order entry (CPOE). For the next meeting with your departments, you want to be able to provide examples to others in the department about electronic systems and data. You will do so by answering the following:
1) Describe the purpose of an electronic health record (EHR) and a computerized provider order entry (CPOE).
2) Discuss 2 errors that could occur in using either an EHR or a CPOE.
