Part two
After the horrific damage that occurred from Hurricane Katrina, there was a great deal of discussion going in at the federal level about whether or not billions of dollars should have been invested to rebuild the cities and town along the Gulf Coast that sit below sea level. This discussion was both constructive and useful in trying to determine the best way to assist those so devastated by this natural disaster. Many believed that the billions of dollars allocated to these areas would be much better spent assisting residents and towns to rebuild in areas less likely to so devastated by Mother Nature in future events. They firmly believe that it was a waste of funds to rebuild these towns, only to have them devastated down the road by another "Katrina." However, there were many others who believed that the government should invest billions to rebuild cities, such as New Orleans, because people have a right to live wherever they want in this country. They related that nearly every area in this country is at risk for some type of natural disaster that wreck havoc and create great destruction.
What are your thoughts? Should our government commit to rebuild areas, such as the Gulf states that sit below sea level? Why or why not.
