Describe the principles of trauma informed care

Problem

Scott served in the Australian Army for 11 years, rising to the ranks of Warrant Officer, recently honourably discharged, after an injury he sustained in Afghanistan. He presents to a community health service, where you work and talks to you about his time in the army. He says he coped by blocking things out most of the time or by having a few beers with the other guys he served with.

But now he is home, he says he sees images that flash into his mind throughout the day and is having difficulty sleeping. He exercises excessively, drinks at night until he passes out, hoping to get some sleep, but usually has night terrors and wakes up most nights screaming and bathed in sweat. He says he is short-tempered and always on edge. He reports arguing with his wife and losing his cool with his kids. He wants to change his behaviour but doesn't know how. He shows self awareness and says he will do whatever it takes to "sort himself out" and be the husband and Father he wants to be.
