Describe the piagets theory of cognitive development


Problem:

Piaget's theory of cognitive development during early the preoperational stage began at age two and lasts till age seven. This is where a child can use the idea of symbolic thinking and develop imaginative make-believe play. But during this time the child is unaware of what it means or if it's logical. They seem to lack the knowledge that people see the world differently than they do. Some key characteristics of the theory start with the aforementioned symbolic thinking and Egocentrism. With Symbolic thinking the child gives words and images to random objects. For instance, the child might have a blue block in their hand and think its water. They could also scribble on a paper and say that it represents wind. This leads to egocentrism where the child believes that their view of the world is the same as everyone else. A few other key characteristic are: Animism where children give objects feelings, and centration where they only focus on one aspect of a situation and not the other parts. There's also the lack of conservation and the lack of reversibility. This is where the child fails to understand quantities and that actions can be reversed. Like if a pillow falls it can be picked up and put back. 2b) Vygotsky's theory of cognitive development emphasizes how social interaction and culture work together.
