He also has a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and a recent upper respiratory viral infection. Jay's only current medication is Lasix (furosemide) 40 mg every other day. He presents with severe epigastric pain that radiates to his back and worsens when lying down. His abdomen is distended, and bowel sounds are hypoactive. Jay has a RR 20, fever of 101.6o F, is diaphoretic, and is hypotensive with a BP of 78/58 mmHg.

LABS: serum calcium is 6.1 mg/dL (NL 8.4 - 10.2 mg/dL); serum amylase 955 IU/L (normal: 15-110 IU/L)

Jay is being transferred to the ICU for further care.
