Describe the objectives of trade unions.

The Objectives of trade unions are:

(i) To take labour out of the competitive procedure because when a number of workers freely compete for a job, the employer will absolutely offer them less wages.

(ii) To negotiate at all levels along with employers over wages and conditions of work.

(iii) To keep the workers in their inalienable right to higher and better life.

(iv) To motivate workers to take part in union activities and to follow union rules and decisions.

(v) To promote and protect the interests of the workers.

(vi) To give legal assistance to workers (that is union members) in connection with work affairs.

(vii) To enhance economic status of workers.

(viii) To promote the jobs of the workers against lay off and retrenchment.
