In chapter one, Hancock and McKim (2012) describe the research in the 1800s completed by French physician Jacques-Joseph Moreau de Tours in which he gave hashish (concentrated form of marijuana resin) to patients known to be suffering from depression. He showed that some patients were able to laugh, carry on conversations and experience happiness. What are your thoughts on the use of psychoactive drugs to help treat mental disorders? What are the differences between what Moreau de Tours did versus modern day doctors who prescribe medications?
3. Do you support the idea of recreational and medical drug use with a substance such as marijuana? How is marijuana distributed both legally and illegally? How does neurotransmission of marijuana both help and hurt the brain? In some states, marijuana use is already legal.
