Assignment:
The available assigned topic areas include:
1. Lung CA/Staging (PET/CT and CT)
2. Colorectal Ca/Staging
3. Breast CA/Staging
4. Myocardial perfusion/viability study
Select one topic must be submitted orallyin class.
For each general topic area:
1. Select a possible abnormal study in the chosen topic area.
2. For each case study selected:
a. Identify the specific disease state and study to be discussed.
b. Describe the in detail the PET/CT procedure performed as it is done in your clinical training site. Be sure to include all technical information such as patient prep and why or why not, radiopharmaceutical used and why, dosage given, instrumentation settings and/or computer commands, preferred patient position, views taken, adjunct imaging modalities previous to current imaging used and why, etc.
c. Describe the medical history of a patient with this disease state, emphasizing those areas that may be pertinent to the tentative diagnosis for which the study has been requested. Explain why the study would be ordered based on the medical history.
d. Research and discuss all pertinent tests which may be ordered for a patient with this disease state and explain why this information is
beneficial to the physician for proper diagnosis (i.e., lab, x-rays, pulmonary function, etc.). Be specific. Discuss the expected test results relative to the tentative diagnoses.
e. Describe the results of the study and explain how theseresults confirm or rule out the tentative diagnosis. Be specific.
f. Research the disease state as presented. Identify and discuss the disease state by answering the following:
i. etiology (causes) of this disease state
ii. typical signs/symptoms
iii. treatment methods
iv. prognosis of a patient with this disorder.
g. Four pages + coversheet and reference page. Times new roman, 12 pt and 1.5 spaced. Cite all references used using an acceptable APA format. A minimum of three references from peer reviewed journals must be cited.
