1. Discuss areas in your life where you might fill leadership roles and where you might fill follower roles. Explain how being an effective follower can translate into developing yourself further as a leader.
2. Essay
Research the Kelley model of followership. Write an essay describing how a leader might utilize the Kelley model of followership to assess follower effectiveness, and discuss how this leader might develop this individual into a more effective follower. The following article from the required reading section of this unit will help you with this assignment:
Bjugstad, K., Thach, E., & Thompson, K. (2006). A fresh look at followership: A model for matching followership and leadership styles. Journal of Behavioral & Applied Management, 7(3), 304-319.
Be sure to include the following in the paper:
• Describe the importance of organizational climate and motivation.
• Describe Kelley's model of effective followership (moving between roles).
• Explain how knowledge of effective followership can help one's leadership perspective.

• Organization should be logical, clear, and appropriate.
• Provide strong evidence of critical thinking.

3. The Declaration of Independence states that governments are formed to protect "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." What do you think "the pursuit of happiness" means within the context of the Declaration? How has that definition changed in the past 230 years?
4. Scholarly Activity
With the times quickly changing, and the recent division among those who support the Federalists and Anti-Federalists, public rallies in the town center have become a common thing.
For the next rally, you have been asked to give a speech regarding how/why you have been influenced by that particular side. After choosing which side to support, use the following, to choose a minimum of four of the six bullets as the basis for your speech. Using these four bullets you have selected summarize how this political divide would evolve into the two-party system. Give the speech in the first person based on choosing a Federalist or Anti-Federalist.
Write out the speech in essay form. Be sure to address the four bullet points selected within the essay for your speech.
The speech must be a minimum of two pages. A minimum of two reputable sources must be used, cited, and referenced, only one of which can come from the required reading section.
FEDERALISTS
• Scrapping of the Articles of Confederation
• Supported limiting the power of the state to allow for a more effective federal government
• Favored an equal, but divided, three part government in the form of Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches
• Argued for a single chief executive
• Chiefly supported by the economic elites
• Felt the Constitution protected all
ANTIFEDERALISTS
• Amending the Articles led government
• Preferred states retain their influence and power for fear of a corrupt monarchical elite
• Preferred the direct representatives of the people, Congress/Legislative, to be the power of the government
• Feared an individual with king-like powers
• Support from lower class and rural areas
• Demanded a separate bill of rights.
