1- Describe the "health" of the Ottoman Empire before WWI. If the Ottoman Empire had remained neutral would the mandate system have been established?
What was the extent of European influence in the Middle East both before and after WWI?
2- Were the interwar "authoritarian reformers" of Turkey and Iran any different than their predecessors? Were they any different than European leaders of the interwar period?
In the Middle East it is said "Egypt is the only nation, all the rest are tribes." Did Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia develop a "national identity"? Is it nation last, tribe and religion first as a form of identity.
