Assignment problem: Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents over the past 30 years. In the United States, the single biggest contributor to Type II Diabetes Mellitus in children is excess weight. Unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity have created one of the most detrimental chronic diseases in our society. We need to gain control of this epidemic, which first starts with the understanding of it's origin.
1-Describe the difference between Type I and Type II Diabetes Mellitus including causation (etiology), body dysfunction (what endocrine organ is involved), and what it means to be chronic.
2-Name AND explain two ways that parents can help prevent Type II in their children. [Do NOT just say better diet and exercise.]
3-Type II is currently the number one chronic disease in adolescents and 90% of all Diabetes cases are Type II. What can we do as a society to help decrease and possibly reverse these statistics?
