Assignment task: Think seriously about the cultural values that your indigenous group feels it is most important to retain and/or recover and/or convey to the wider world. This might be the entire culture, since the various areas of an integrated culture are tightly interwoven. When an indigenous culture loses "just" its land or "just" its language, it suffers a devastating blow to its cultural integrity. Or perhaps the group has been dispossessed, and is now focused on recovering its language and former wetlands to harvest native plants. Or perhaps the encounter is a targeted one, like preserving land from industrial development, or conveying spiritual values through art.
