Importance of an Accurate Diagnosis
Accurate diagnosis is essential to the well being of the client/patient in the mental health system
1) In your opinion why do think it is important to use a multicultrual perspective in all phases of counseling, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment?
2) Describe the cultural issues, and one other diagnosis issue, that you feel might impede accurate diagnosis? Why?
A therapist must make sure that the treatment plan lines up with the patient's cultural background, otherwise it will not help and can, in fact, do more damage. We need to learn communication barriers, cultural differences and understand the values of other cultures.
