Describe the baseline phase and the intervention phase

Problem:

The original number of participants to be examined was 40 women (Riaz & Agha, 2012). They were to be no more than 50 years old, proficient in Urdu, and have a history of deliberate self-harm. By the end of the interviewing process, there were nine women left to participate in the study. The ages of the women in the final study were between 21 and 50. Seven of the women were married, one was single, and one divorced. Five lost custody of children, and one had a child. The women came from different education levels. Three were graduates, one was an undergrad, and the rest were illiterate with one being able to read Urdu. They all had a history of self-harm, three had done so before incarceration and six had done so after incarceration. None of the women stated having access to any form of mental health services prior to conviction. They were accused of several different crimes. The crimes included theft, kidnapping, murder, drug possession, and smuggling. (Riaz & Agha, 2012).

The type of design that this study best fits is AB. An AB design is made of two components: the baseline phase and the intervention phase. The baseline phase is when the researchers identify and observe the target behavior for the intervention. In the case of this study, the baseline was measuring the participants self-harm and their coping methods prior to receiving therapy. The intervention phase is when the independent variable is implemented. This is when researchers will observe how the independent variable interacts and/or changes the dependent variable identified in the baseline phase. The intervention phase in this study is when the researchers implemented the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy with the participants. Once the intervention phase concludes, that is the end of the experiment. There are no repeating phases or multiple variables to test. (Riaz & Agha, 2012). Need Assignment Help?
