i. Sociologists argue that people "do gender." What does this mean? What is an example of how you do gender in your own life?
ii. Think about advertising in your favorite magazine. How are men and women represented in the advertising? Do you think that the advertising reflects reality?
iii. What are gender roles? Describe some of the gender roles for your gender. What happens if you behave or think in ways that don't fit these gender roles?
iv. Think back to your childhood. How did your family and friends teach you your gender? Do you think they were successful?
v. Sociologists argue that the media reinforces gender roles in society. Do you agree or disagree? Do you think your favorite programs reinforce the gender inequality in society? Why or why not?
