Two social role transitions that take place in late adulthood are the familiar role transition into grandparenthood and the socioeconomic role transition from being in the workforce to retirement. However, neither of these role transitions are guaranteed, nor are they a universal experience. Not every person will and continue their genealogy, and not every person in late adulthood will be able to afford retirement and continue working until they are able to supplement their income in another way, possibly through disability insurance through the unemployment/EDD centers of their state's government benefits program (Employment Development Department, n.d.).
