Now that you understand what action research is and the key stages in the action research process, let's begin the process of developing an action research study. For this summative assessment, you will engage in

? Step 2: Gathering Information. For this summative, you will select a topic that focuses on a real problem in practice in your institutional or organizational setting. For those in education, this may be a school wide problem (discipline, teacher satisfaction, incentive programs, attendance, etc.) or a classroom or discipline specific problem (instructional strategies, behavior management, team collaboration, collaborative planning, student conferencing, etc.). For those in business, this may be leadership effectiveness, succession planning, sustainable business models, scaling to size, cybersecurity risks, employee turnover, supply chain strategies, etc.
Once you identify a problem of interest, then identify the data you would need that reinforces this being an actual problem that needs to be investigated. For educators, you might use school or organizational performance data, interviews, observations, documents, etc. After you gather and provide supporting data to the problem, then provide a brief review of the literature on this topic and problem. Include at least 10 peer-reviewed research studies in your review. This will be a starting point to a much more in-depth literature review for your capstone project.
