In St Kitts and Nevis, mental health services are available through government healthcare facilities, but access is still limited because there are not enough trained mental health professionals. Stigma also remains a significant barrier. Some people choose to seek help from pastors or other religious leaders instead of psychologists, counsellors or psychiatrists because they believe mental illness is mainly a spiritual problem rather than a health condition. People living with conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia often face discrimination, social isolation, difficulty finding employment and delays in receiving treatment.
