Statement: The CDC estimates that in 2002 (the most recent surveyed year) 1.7 million cases of nosocomial infections were reported. These are hospital-acquired infections. To put things into perspective, about 1.7 million people went into the hospital for one reason and came out with an infection they acquired there.
