Introduction to Applied Research and the Research Process

Case Assignment

The Ed.D. Program will require you to read and refer to research on a regular basis. You will utilize research to assist in your development as a scholar-practitioner. Therefore, it is important to know where and how to locate appropriate research.

Use the assigned readings to write a 4- to 5-page paper that addresses the following (use the headings below to construct your paper):

Introduction

Provide a brief introduction that summarizes the topics covered in your paper.

Basic v. Applied Research

Describe in your own words the differences between basic and applied research. Include a discussion of the advantages and disadvantage of applied research.

Research and Practice

Selection of Appropriate Research Sources

The Oliver (2012) text (Chapter 4: How to Select Literature for Inclusion) provides several criteria to determine if a source is appropriate to include in a potential research study. Locate a journal article in the Trident University Library and discuss why it meets each criteria outlined in the Oliver (2012) text.

Relevant Peer-Reviewed Journals

Locate and list 5 peer-reviewed journals/publications that are specific to your concentration and discuss why those journals/publications are appropriate research resources. (A list of peer-reviewed journals related to education can be found through ERIC )

Conclusion

Provide a brief conclusion that offers a reflection on what you learned from this assignment.
